A New Look at the Marian Dogmas in Sacred Scripture through the Lens of the Fathers of the Church
From: Landas Vol. 36 No. 1 (2024)
Abstract
This article will examine the writings of the Fathers of the Church on the four Marian dogmas: the Divine Maternity of Mary, her Perpetual Virginity, her Immaculate Conception, and her Bodily Assumption into Heaven. As will be shown later, the Fathers' teachings on the Church's Marian beliefs are found in their commentaries on the Sacred Scriptures. The purpose of this article is to show how the Church Fathers saw the figure of Mary in the pages of the Bible, what kind of exegetical perspective they had in their Biblical interpretation, and, lastly, how historical-critical exegesis can learn to interpret the Scripture as God's word correctly and properly from patristic-medieval exegesis.
