Philippine Pastoral Implications of Pope Francis' Vision of Youth Evangelization
From: Loyola Papers Vol. 3 No. 1 (2022)
Abstract
This article synthesizes Pope Francis' vision of evangelization and youth evangelization as expressed in Evangelii Gaudium and Christus Vivit around five themes: the missionary mode of the Church, the universal call of all the baptized to be agents of evangelization, synodality and accompaniment, the culture of encounter, and the joy of the Gospel. For each theme the author summarizes Francis' teaching, synthesizes its salient points, and draws out concrete pastoral implications for the Philippine context, drawing on CBCP initiatives such as the 2019 Year of the Youth. The article concludes that a missionary and synodal Church, a ministry of presence and encounter, and sensitivity to the signs of the times are essential for effective youth evangelization in the Philippines today.
