FABC@50: Renewing the Clergy of Asia
From: Loyola Papers Vol. 3 No. 2 (2022)
Abstract
Written by the outgoing chairman of the FABC Office of Clergy (FABC-OC), this article traces the office's history since its founding in 2004, recounting the seventeen formation seminars it organized for Asian bishops, priests, and seminary formators on topics ranging from priestly celibacy and human formation to the clergy sexual-abuse crisis and climate change. The author highlights the FABC Papers these seminars produced and looks ahead to the FABC's fiftieth-anniversary General Conference, describing emerging partnerships, such as with the Catholic Safeguarding Institute, and new canonical norms under the revised Book VI, positioning ongoing clergy renewal in Asia within the current Synod on Synodality.
